This professionally-produced 40-minute video may be the most
important source of technical information that today's broiler growers can have
to survive and prosper during periods of high energy costs.
Using video shot in various types of actual broiler houses, the tape explains
and illustrates with smoke testing and graphic displays the importance of house
tightness, insulation, control of static pressure and ventilation airflow, and
proper setting of timers.
A main strength of the video is demonstrating practical how-to steps on
essential topics such as testing house tightness, finding and sealing air leaks,
installing adequate insulation, managing litter quality, setting ventilation
rates, using re-circulating fans, managing fans and static-pressure-controlled
vent boxes, and minimizing condensation.
The concluding section of the video answers questions most frequently asked
by growers.
The tape was produced by a team including industry and professional consultants,
led by Auburn University professor and agricultural engineer Jim Donald.
Copies of the VHS videotape and script (including key illustrations) are
